International Conference on Drug Trafficking in Guinea Bissau
On 21 August 2007 a «Memorandum of Understanding to fight Drug Trafficking in Guinea Bissau» was signed between Portugal and Guinea Bissau, stipulating that both countries «will try to provide» Guinea Bissau with «the adequate institutional and operational means, collaborating in the mobilisation of the international community in order to achieve this objective».
In the ambit of this compromise, which is also the Portuguese answer to the «Emergency Plan to Fight Drug Trafficking», launched on 3 August by the government of Guinea, the two governments have decided to organise a donors International Conference on Drugs in Guinea Bissau, which will be held on 19 December in Lisbon, at the Tejo Room, Pavilhão Atlântico (Parque das Nações). Its main objective is to congregate all the efforts of the international community (namely the financial) to move ahead with the Operational Plan to Support the Government of Guinea Bissau in the Fight against Drugs, set up with the technical support of t he UNODC (United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime).
