Cotecna signs Risk Management contract with Angola government

Cotecna, one of the world’s leading trade inspection, security and certification companies, has signed a five year BOT contract (Build Operate Transfer) with the Angolan government for the Cotecna Computerized Risk Management System (CRMS®).

The contract was signed on December 11, 2007 and will begin operationally on January 2, 2008.

Cotecna’s Computerized Risk Management System (CRMS®) is designed to help Customs cope more effectively with managing and facilitating ever-increasing volumes of imports. It is an automated Customs solution that uses econometrical modeling to identify the relevant criteria for assessing the risk associated with trade transactions. The CRMS® applies criteria in a systematic manner to determine the level of risk for each transaction and assigns levels of Customs intervention according to level of risk and available resources.

Cotecna’s Risk Management System helps with enhancing security, facilitating international trade, protecting revenues, reducing port congestion, and contributes to a more effective and efficient allocation of Customs’ resources.

Used in conjunction with other services provided by Cotecna, such as Scanning, Destination Inspection and/or strategically applied PSI services, Cotecna’s CRMS® becomes a very powerful tool for revenue authorities.

Fred Chatelin, Regional Vice President Africa, said, “This latest Computerized Risk Management contract shows the continuity of Cotecna’s involvement with Angola following previous contracts for warehouse management and PSI. It demonstrates Cotecna’s role as a partner in Customs Modernization in Angola, one of the fastest growing economies in Africa.”
